Sound Is Matter

2014-2019

Videoserie af 8 afsnit / Videowork of 8 chapters

The project Sound is Matter explores theories about and practices in sound and psychoacoustic science. Sound is Matter consists of a series of videos exploring how sound affects our body and mind. The focus is on the acoustic effects of sound. For example the affects on man, that our hearing operate 3-dimensionally, while modern sound sources operate on 2-dimensional. Another chapter presents the theory about the so-called DNA frequency of 528 Hz. Scientific studies have shown 528 Hz stimulates the body's cells to regenerate faster. The furth chpater is dedicated to the history of the chamber tone, which was established in the 1930s with massive support from the Nazi regime and the Rockerfeller foundation. Recent research shows, at just the 440 Hz creates and interference in the brain. The sound side of the videos plays a big role, they are designed in connection with the theory of the need to actively influence the audience.

With inspiration from scientific documentary films, Sound is Matter elaborates through the eight chapters on the physical influence of acoustic frequencies and highlights new complex aspects of the modern soundscape of today.

The series is made over a number of years and individual chapters have been shown at Brandts, Gl. Strand and Nikolaj Kunsthal. The film screening on Videomøllen marked the release of the project, which after CPH Artweek 2029 are freely available online.
